ASMWA Marshall Centre Seminar - S. pneumoniae
The Australian Society for Microbiology WA Branch and the Marshall Centre welcome an eminent international guest speaker, Professor Stephen Bentley.
Prof Stephen Bentley leads a research team at the Wellcome Sanger Institute near Cambridge in the UK. Over the last two decades, his research has pioneered the application of genomic technologies to understand the biology of bacterial pathogens. Over that period his work has developed from annotation of genes in the early reference genomes, through the emergence of population genomics, to the current developments in respiratory metagenomics and mathematical modelling of evolution and spread.

ASM Seminar - Dr Chisha Sikazwe, Emerging Viruses in a Post-Pandemic World
Throughout his career, Dr Sikazwe has led numerous projects in the field of respiratory virus surveillance, diagnostics, viral evolution, and virus-host interactions. His expertise in these areas has resulted in the development of innovative diagnostic tools at PathWest Laboratory Medicine and a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying viral diseases.
